3 Free Soccer Drills To Pick Up Your Game

There is an old adage, practice makes perfect. Well, in soccer that's spot on. To develop as a soccer player you need to practice various soccer drills. This can be done at practice but if you want to become a stand out star you need to practice on your own time as well. Below are some free soccer drills that will get you on the right track.

The first drill is done individually and is called Juggling. Now, you will most definitely not have the time or space to juggle a ball in a game but juggling lays the ground work for a lot of other soccer skills. Plus, it's easy, fun and can be done individually.

Juggling the ball sharpens your ball control ability and let's you get a good feel for the ball. This helps your dribbling and trapping ability which are very important in a game. Juggling also strengthens concentration, balance and the ability to control the ball with both feet. Juggling just 30 minutes a day can go a long way in helping with many other skills.

Next we have one on one dribbling. This drill should be done in pairs to maximize the effectiveness. There are so many instances in game play where you'll need to take on an opponent and get past them. The more practice you have with one on one dribbling the better you'll be when it really counts, in a game.

It's a good idea to play both roles when practicing this skill. You'll want to be the defender in one instance and then play the attacker in the next. Make a game out of it, when the player your practicing with gets past you, it's a point and vice versa.

Finally we have one touch passing. This is best done in groups with your teammates. This drill will help in your ball handling skills and also work on your agility. The basics of this drill is having at least 4 players, 2 on either side about 10 feet apart. Start passing the ball to a player on the opposite side only touching the ball once when it comes at you. As you get familiar with this drill try speeding it up to increase your skill level.

Soccer drills are the backbone of what makes a good player great. Be sure to practice not only during practice but on your own time at home. Some of the greats in the game work on their skills for hours even after practice, how do you think they got so good.
