Learning The Basic Soccer Skills
There are many soccer skills that need to be taught
as a coach. Usually each league will have a charter that states the
objectives with the most important being the development of skillful
players. Coaches use these charters as a guide to bring players into
accordance with different skill sets. With the importance of developing
solid skills, winning should be a secondary focus.
A coaches first objective in teaching soccer skills is to emphasize self
control for players. This helps them to become more of a team player
which is exactly what soccer is, a team sport. There are many secondary
skills that a coach needs to address like the ability to control the
ball, trap the ball, player positioning, kicking and defensive
maneuvers. After self control, the coach should focus on the ability of
a player to trap the ball or stop it.
For coaches to come into compliance with various skill sets, they need
to follow a set of standards set out by an organization or league.
Without these standards it would be hard for a team and coach to come
together and be on the same page. Lack of standards can lead to
disorganization which ultimately leads to failure. That's why it is
important to have standards in place not only for organization but for
the quality of the league
The various skill sets as described above can be hard to learn at first.
Trapping is a skill that is one of the most important. Basically,
trapping is when a player can stop the ball in a controlled manner using
his feet. This skill with ball control and leads to other skills. Next,
we have kicking. The average person would just kick a ball with his or
her toe which is almost impossible to control. When a player strikes or
kicks a ball they need to have control over it so it goes exactly where
they want it to go and at the right time. This can be done with
the instep of the foot. It takes some practice but the ability to
control a ball after it has been kicked it of up most importance.
Defensive maneuvers are a very important soccer skill and can take into
account all of the skills in one. When defending you need to always keep
the eye on the ball, never letting distractions take that focus away. It
takes time to learn to focus like this, that's why many teams practice a
great bit.
Soccer skills are very important to the players and the league's they
are in. Coaches help players gain and build these skills to not only
come into compliance with a league but to become better strikers in the
future. Without soccer skills, players might as well stick to the sand
lot with their buddies and forgo any type of organized play.
